Remember Karen & Umbreon? Well new Johto Champion Stadium and I thought best time to bust out a Johto BP sync pair. At this point probably most of us has an abundance of BP sync pair exchange ticket and I want to present the option of getting Karen's Umbreon to you if you haven't got her yet. Some would say that Umbreon is a poor man's version of Fall Hilbert's Mightyena. Well they would be right but Umbreon here isn't without his own merits. Umbreon has a straight forward approach to tackling a stage, which is literally ramming it down with Double-Edge. Feint Attack isn't gonna work anywhere so with Umbreon you would only need to decide between Double-Edge and Sync nuking. Since she is without an EX upgrade, I believe the best choice here is Double-Edge. Being a BP sync pair though, Umbreon does leave alot to be desired. Karen's Dire Hit is only a 1 rank critical hit rate boost, Go Wild's attack boost is paired with a regen so it isn't optimal to spam it to max Atk and he has no multiplier as a passive skill. This is why Samurott is such a great partner. 2 turns from Samurott solves most of Umbreon's problems. Which then all you need to deal with is his recoil damage. Here comes the most aggravating part of Umbreon's grid. He has First Aid 4, but it's parked at the direct opposite edge of his sync grid from the Double-Edge tiles, and it's guarded by Feint Attack tiles which has no synergy at all with First Aid 4. Every time I look at Umbreon's grid I feel like clawing my hair out. But none the less, Umbreon still deals enough damage even with a less than optimal grid setup. If you can give up on First Aid 4 and use external support to keep Umbreon alive, go for it. Otherwise, just take First Aid 4. It is vital to the survival of Umbreon.

In this video, I've managed to out-damage Will's Jynx, one of the tougher Master Mode boss for the Johto line up without an EX support buff. Umbreon is a very good asset to have in your roster. If you haven't got Umbreon and am not sure who to get, give him a try. I promise you won't regret it.
