In this video I will discuss about the development of love and Affection In Children.


Love and affection:

This is an emotional reaction directed towards a person, animal or thing with whom we have pleasurable experience.

It indicates warm regard, friendliness, sympathy or helpfulness and may take a physical or verbal form of expression.

Affection may be a natural tendency or acquired behaviour,

but learning to express love and affection plays an important role in a child's life.


Mutual affection is conducive to good socioemotional adjustment.

Love is always a two way affair and grows best when it is given and received.

Affection plays an important role in the life of every child and person and,

normal development of children is influenced by the affection shown by elders.

This provides an assurance that he or she is wanted, belongs and this promotes a sense of security and
satisfaction.

Psychological well-being of a child depends upon how much affection is shown by others,

how gently the child is handled,

how much he or she is played with,

how she or he is soothed when hurt,

how the child's curiosity is satisfied and desires fulfilled etc.

There is scientific evidence to prove that, the children who are brought up without attention and love suffer unfavourable development.

Lack of love and affection from parents contributes delinquency
In children.(ಅಪರಾಧ ಪ್ರವೃತ್ತಿ)

During early years love and affection is expressed in the forms of fondling(ಇಷ್ಟಪಡುವ), hugging, smiling, laughing, patting etc.


Expression of love in children is spontaneous.

Children learn to control these earlier forms of expression of love, when they reach school age and it changes to verbal responses, smiling and gestures and all combined.

In early childhood, love is directed towards the people in whose company children want to live, and the toys and animals with which they want to play.

The psychological need for affection and its value for wholesome self-development stresses that child should be consciously helped to develop and learn this emotion.

Along with parents, teachers play an important role in showing and developing love in children.

Teachers have to show qualities of kindness, sympathy and a genuine interest in children.

They should be affectionate to the children, and be warm-hearted.

But remember, this should not lead to too much of indulgence or over-display.

Children should be encouraged to extend love to others, mix freely.

Stories and dramatic roleplay might also help in promoting affection.

Appreciate and encourage whenever a child expresses love towards others while playing, cooperative group activities and so on.

This will help in development of positive personality.
