Testing bringing comic characters to life with everyone’s favorite assassin, She-Spawn. These videos are based on the cover of The Scorched issue 39 with art by @raymondgay and colors by @stevecanon. Spawn is created by @toddmcfarlane and published by @imagecomics. Shoutout to my son @jetlucanus for making me buy every Spawn’s Universe title every week for the last few years. Best books in the business.

Here’s the workflow:

Art - a photo of the original comic cover taken with my phone.

Restyle - To make the comic cover look more realistic, I tried ChatGPT, which was close but not enough to the comic. I then went to Midjourney and used a mix of prompts from DeepSeek, ChatGPT, a YouTube video, but in the end, I had to lean on my VFX supervisor style note writing to craft a prompt that kept some key details.

Video - Image-to-video on all platforms gave the varied results you see:
Luma was static but crisp and any 2nd pass generation deviated too much from the character.
Higgsfield’s camerawork is almost too powerful for its own good. Of course, this is my first time using it, so I’m sure there’s a learning curve.
Kling is still king in my book. It’s subtle and I’ve found that aspect of the model useful for insert shots in other projects.

The intention behind this test is to see how easy it is to bring comic characters to life in cinema, as I’m producing a few projects that will merge live action with AI.

For this test, while I got excited to see She-Spawn move (to the point of yelling, “ooooohhhhhhh!”) I’m still not fully happy with the result, but I wanted to share this multi-hour test today. I give myself some grace knowing that the characters in Spawn’s Universe have symbiote suits that are constantly changing, so that’s what I tell myself as the unintentional morphing happens.
