In August 2025, Noida police busted a fraudulent operation posing as the "International Police and Crime Investigation Bureau" in Sector 70, Central Noida. Six men, all from West Bengal, were arrested for allegedly impersonating international police and government officials to extort money from locals. The group, led by Bibhas Chandra Adhikari, a former Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, and his son Arghya Adhikari, set up a fake office with police-like colors, logos, and forged documents, including certificates from ministries like Tribal Affairs, Ayush, and Social Justice. They claimed affiliations with Interpol, the International Human Rights Commission, and other fictitious global agencies, even operating a website (www.intlpcrib.in) to collect "donations."
The accused, identified as Vibhash Chandra Adhikari (27, arts graduate), Arghya Adhikari (26, law graduate), Pintu Pal (27), Samapdal (25), Babul Chandra Mandal (27), and Ashish Kumar (57), rented the office on June 4, 2025, and had been operating for about 10-15 days before the raid on August 10, 2025. Police seized nine mobile phones, 17 stamp seals, six cheque books, nine fake ID cards, a PAN card, a voter card, six ATM cards, three types of visiting cards, Rs 42,300 in cash, and four boards displaying the fake bureau’s name. The group allegedly used these materials to deceive people by posing as officials and contacting them for "verifications" or "inquiries."
A case was registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Information Technology Act, and the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act at the Phase 3 police station. The operation is noted to be similar to a fake embassy scam recently uncovered in Ghaziabad. Investigations are ongoing to identify additional victims and accomplices, with police suspecting the group may have operated similar setups in West Bengal, including a fake "Interpol" office in Kolkata.
