John B Keane 1963 Teilifis Eireann Profile

John B Keane talks in 1963 on Teilifis Eireann about his upbringing in Listowel Co Kerry, his schooldays, early working life and leaving for England in 1952 (rebroadcast RTE 1 23 July 2012). Keane confirms combined anti-Irish, anti-black prejudice in signs posted on lodging house windows. After arriving at his destination, Northampton, Keane reported:
"... we came to a lane where he [Keane's friend 'Murphy'] lodged. It was a bad, grey, dirty little street. On the windows of some of the houses was written, 'No Dogs, No Children, No Negroes, No Irish', and in italics after this, 'This means you Paddy'."
