Although there are more than seven 2 click flare (orbit) variations, this skratch lecture demonstrates the most common types as well as a few hybrids. Whereas most tutorials focus on the most common triplet 2 click flare that makes 3 sounds of the same rhythm, this skratch practice documentary delves into the mechanics of TTM crossfader click notation using a variety of different visual & animated markers. Two click Flare Orbits divide a sound into 3 parts of varying lengths depending upon the variation. This film features seven two click flare types which are listed below as well as 1 Click flares, 3 click flares and others to provide a dynamic contrast. To fully overstand the 2 click flare types, the place holders of multi click flares have been drawn radially onto the actual turntable so that the clicks may be visually synchronized in real time.

Featured skratches are the Flare, 2Hi-2loC Flare, 2lo-2HiC Flare, 2C Flare, 2TC Flare, 2lo-2C Flare, 2lo-2TC Flare, 2-2TC Flare, 3C Flare and some bønus styles.

Since skratching is a form of live audio and or video editing (time manipulation), Dj's can tweak purely clicks & recørd møvements to create a limitless number øf skratches. The three 2 click Hybrids featured in this film, which are the 2lo-2C, 2lo-2TC and the 2-2TC, require one to be able to mentally cut an orbit in half & think of the patterns individually. The swing of any pattern can morph into another by mistake when fusing the four basic 2 click orbits into hybrids. The latter 2-2TC or Two to Two Triplet Click Flare (orbit) is very tricky since it requires mixing two patterns that have very similar click positions. On the Turntable platter, The 2TC place holders are represented by green dots while the 2C which is quite near it is labeled in purple. Additionally, this hybrid uses even percentage clicking along with odd and repeating number clicks. The 2 clicks in the 2C Flare appear at the 25% and 75% points of a skratch movement while those 2 clicks in the 2TC flare appear at the 33 1/3% and 66 2/3% points. Although a click represents the point at which the crossfader instantaneously hits the endpoint range of the fader or mixer to slice øne sound into two, a click can also become a short rest that has countable length of time like that of Transform cuts. Notice that the click symbol on the flare examples is bigger than the other two clicks due to the fact that the mind, sometimes, has a tendency to make a click last longer when there is only one during the motiøn of the sample either forwards or backwards. So the range of a clicks length can vary from the sharp curve-less transform on and off switch that makes a static click noise all the way to a short rest. When doing three click flares and 2 clicks that use 16th note spacing, clicks must usually be quick and sharp so that they dont obscure the sound that they're chopping in half. Its for this reason that when a mistake is made doing multi-click orbits, its usually becomes a transform variation. When speed is increased to the fastest levels ,however, most if not all of these 2 click variations all eventually become the 2TC flare or 2 Triplet Click flare which is the most common recorded 2 click to date. Twiddles , or using two fingers to flick the crossfader on & off, have historically been the most common for achieving 2hi or 2lo movements. The 2Hi or Two High Flare represents clicks at the 50% & 75% points while the 2LoC or Two low Click represents clicks at the 50% and 25% points. The Flow and Swing of a dj's record movements and click timing dictate the exact location of the sometimes unique percentages of where these click points occur during one forward or backward movement. The click percentages of the 7 skratches featured in this lecture are: 2Hi-2loC Flare = (50%+75% to 25%+50%), 2lo-2HiC Flare = ( 25%+50% to 25%+50%, 2C Flare = (25%+75% to 25%+75%), 2TC Flare = (33 1/3%+66 2/3% to 33 1/3%+66 2/3% ) , 2lo-2C Flare = (25%+50% to 25%+75%), 2lo-2TC Flare = (25%+50% to 33 1/3%+66 2/3%) , and the 2-2TC Flare = (25%+75% to 33 1/3%+66 2/3%) respectively. The comparative 1 Click flares have click symbols that appear at the 50% mark while the 3 Click flare have click symbols at the 25%, 50% and 75% points.

This lecture also includes a system of phonetic verbalization of the movements of the 2 Click Flare variations. Being able to vocalize the rhythm of the clicks along with the records change of direction can be very useful to Dj's in that it makes recognition of each technique much more simple. By verbalizing TTM skratch notation wave characters one can learn the patterns without having to be able to execute them physically. The merger of linguistics & musical recitation helps the brain recognize skratches as an actual function of speech; as you may have seen many a turntablist grind their teeth or move their jaw while skratching since the brain wishes to synchronize linguistic functions with motor skill musical output.
