Open Space: Chxpo | Mass Appeal

"Cleveland is where hip hop started," says Chxpo. "We the core of this. We invented hip hop. Shout out to New York and Cali and all that, but Ohio started hip hop." OK maybe he's exaggerating to make a point, but the Cleveland rapper is tired of Ohio Players like Bone Thugs and Kid Cudi not getting their fair share of credit for influencing the current wave of music. But make no mistake, Chxpo is not just a music critic. He's an artist and he is about that life. "I dodged a bullet," says the Bloody Boy affiliate responsible for mixtapes like 'Way Past Savage,' 'Born Bloody,' and '98 Nights.' "All my friends got life in jail and dead. I got too close to be out here messin' around. I took time to get to know myself and ask myself questions." During a recent visit to MASS APPEAL HQ, Chxpo pulled up in fashion icon mode "Gucci with the Abercrombie jeans," he said. "Keepin' it classy."
