In a significant move, Uganda has welcomed a Tanzanian delegation to learn from its advanced national data center and CERT infrastructure. This collaboration aims to harmonize regulations and create a unified digital ecosystem within the East African Community.
The three-day visit, hosted by Uganda's National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U), focused on benchmarking Uganda's robust cybersecurity systems. The Tanzanian Information and Communication Technologies Commission (ICTC) gained valuable insights into Uganda's decade-long journey in building a resilient digital economy.
Officials from both countries emphasized the importance of sharing best practices to enhance cybersecurity and data protection. Uganda's Director of Regulation and Legal Affairs, Caroline Mugisha, highlighted the shared ambition of East African states to collaborate and improve their ICT capacities.
The visit included a tour of Uganda's National Data Center and National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT), providing a firsthand look at operational frameworks. Additionally, the delegations met with the Personal Data Protection Office, emphasizing the integral link between security, governance, and digital inclusion.
By sharing its expertise, Uganda solidifies its position as a regional leader in secure digital development. This initiative sets a precedent for further cooperation and showcases Africa's commitment to a safer digital future.
