Want to grow big, sweet watermelons in containers? 🍉 In this video, I’ll show you exactly how to care for your watermelon plants after planting—from fertilizing and watering to fighting off pests and staying weed-free. These tips will help keep your container-grown melons healthy and productive throughout the entire season.

🪴 Container Watermelon Care Includes:
🌿 Fertilizing Watermelon in Containers
Watermelon plants are heavy feeders, especially in containers!
✅ At the start of the growing season, mix in an organic slow-release fertilizer or compost.
✅ Once flowers appear, switch to a low-nitrogen, high-phosphorus, and potassium fertilizer (like 5-10-10).
✅ Feed every 7–10 days using:

Liquid seaweed or kelp

Fish emulsion

Compost tea
✅ Add Bear Brown’s Watermelon Booster for a potassium-rich boost during fruit development.

💧 Watering Routine That Works
Watermelons love deep, consistent moisture—especially in containers where soil dries fast.
💧 Water 2–3 times a week, and daily during heat waves or once fruit begins to swell.
💧 Always water at the base to avoid leaf disease.
💧 Use a moisture meter or finger test 2 inches deep—don’t let it dry out!
💧 Don’t overwater; soggy roots lead to rot and weak plants.

🌾 Mulching & Weed Control
Weeds may seem less common in containers, but they still compete for nutrients.
🌿 Use 2–3 inches of mulch (straw, shredded leaves, or untreated wood chips) to:

Hold in moisture

Regulate soil temperature

Block weeds
🌿 Pull weeds as soon as you see them—don’t let them flower or seed.

Watermelons are pest magnets—so early prevention is key.
