Описание к видео Information Literacy and Related Literacies

Information literacy exists alongside related literacies, including digital, media, algorithmic and artificial intelligence literacy. How do these literacies come together? Do they all fall under the umbrella of information literacy? If so, what does that mean for librarians’ ability to teach information literacy? Should librarians embrace one of the other terms instead of information literacy?

This discussion will consider information literacy in light of these other literacies, explore the existing relations and consider future directions for how we think about them.

This panel is being hosted by The Ohio State University Libraries and is offered as a follow-up to Celebrating 50 Years of Information Literacy: A Panel Discussion. All are welcome!

Panelists:

Melissa Mallon, MLIS, is Associate University Librarian for Teaching & Learning at Vanderbilt University. Mallon has published, presented, and taught professional development courses in the areas of academic library leadership and management, online learning, instructional design, and the impact of information, media and digital literacies on student learning.

Sarah Morris worked as an academic librarian for more than 10 years, holding positions at Loyola University Chicago and the University of Texas and serving as the Head of Instruction and Engagement at the Emory University Libraries. Sarah is currently working on media literacy education projects with the Carter Center and as an educational consultant.

Audrey Gunn is a Research and Instruction Librarian at St. Olaf College, working primarily with students, faculty and staff in English and STEM disciplines. She has an interest in information literacy and critical pedagogy. For the past year, she has been part of an internal group working to develop a “literacies framework” exploring relationships between various literacies (IL, media literacy, data literacy, etc).

Spencer Brayton is Director of Library Services at Waubonsee Community College (northeastern Illinois, USA). His research interests include media and information literacy, community college libraries, coaching and leadership. Spencer is currently collaborating on an edited volume focused on the value of community college libraries.
