Welcome to the late 9th century Ah Lay temple, Lolei temple. One of the temples was built in the middle of the largest reservoir
This largest reservoir has 3800 meters long and 800 meters width. Temple foundation formed 2 tiers from laterite stone to maintain the sand from collapsing down.
Original name: Indravameshva which means Supreme god, Hindu god Shiva, Indravameshvara represents the king Indravarman I.
Temple was constructed by king Yasovarman I in around 893 AD in the middle of manmade reservoir that was named Indratakaka.
King Yasovarman I built Lolei to dedicated to his ancestors before he moved the city from Harihalaya to Angkor Region.
King Yasovarman I built the South Sanctuary dedicated to his father – in – law referred to the inscription on doorjamb that was carved and another holy shrine dedicated to his mother – in – law.
Northern Sanctuary and East Facing dedicated to his father, Indravarman I represented the Shiva Linga, Indravameshvra and another holy shrine dedicated to his mother, name Indradevi who represented the Goddess Parvati.
Lolei temple, Ah Lay temple was constructed in one foundation with 4 brick fire towers.
4 brick fire towers symbolize the Mount Meru and the largest manmade reservoir symbolizes the seven oceans surrounding the universe.
