(2/21/24) During consideration of SB 140, Rep Carrick offered an amendment to increase the Base Student Allocation (BSA) by $1413 per-student.

Unfortunately, we were two votes short of achieving this break-even funding for the Fairbanks School District, and districts across Alaska. A $1413 per student increase to the BSA as provided for by this amendment would allow the Fairbanks School District to balance its budget for this upcoming school year and provide stability for the years to come. Amendments to increase the BSA ranged in size from $680 per-student to $1890 per-student, but unfortunately they were all blocked by the Republicans in the House Majority. There are still dozens of amendments to SB 140, some of which include increases to the BSA. I am still hopeful that, somehow, we can find a way to work together and compromise to support the students, teachers, staff, and families in our district.
