Setup
Place the board and all character tokens on their named spaces even if you are playing with less than 6 players
then, choose your character
Place all the weapons in separate, random rooms
Shuffle the clue cards and leave them facedown near the board
Sort the other cards into 3 decks: characters, weapons and rooms
Take the top card from each deck and place them inside the file envelope
No one should see the cards
Shuffle the 3 decks together and deal them among the players
It doesn’t matter if after dealing the cards, some players have more cards than others
Give each player one sheet from the detective notebook and a pen
Each player look at their cards and mark off the suspects, weapons and rooms they have as they cannot be in the envelope
Keep your sheet and cards secret
And now you are ready to learn how to play
Your goal is to solve the murder by correctly guessing who did it? With which weapon? And where?
Miss scarlett always starts
If no one is playing her, play begins with the next character clockwise
On your turn, you may move your character by rolling the dice
If you roll a magnifying glass, pick up a clue card for each magnifying glass you roll and read it out loud, then do what it says
Then, move your character token the number of squares shown on the dice roll. Magnifying glass icon counts as 1
note that you cannot move diagonally nor move through or land on a square occupied by another player token
You can skip the movement if your character is in a room and you want to remain there
Or if the room has a secret passage, you can use it by moving the character token from one corner room to its connecting corner room
Whether you moved or not, if you are in a room, you can make a suggestion to help you figure out the 3 cards in the envelope
suggest which character did it & which weapon was used
Move the suggested character and weapon to the room you are in
Example – this character is on the library – they suggest that it was scarlet with the rope in the library
The player to the left of the accuser looks at its cards
If that player has one card you asked, they must show you the card – don’t let other players see
If they have more than one of those cards, they can pick which one to show
And if the player has neither card, they must say so
If this happens, the next player checks their cards until someone shows you a card or until you`ve asked everyone
Once you`ve seen a card, you know its not inside the file envelope
Make a mark on your sheet
Play continues with the player on your left
If you think you know who did it, what and where, on you can make an accusation
You can make an accusation right after making a suggestion and you don’t need to be in the room you are going to name nor roll the dice
Example
mr blue accuses mustard with the candlestick in the living room
Then, look inside the envelope
If the 3 cards you named match with the card inside the envelope you win!
If they don’t match, you continue playing but you cannot move, make suggestions or accuse
You must show cards when another player makes a suggestion though
If no one makes a correct accusation, then the culprit got away and no one wins!
And that’s how you play clue board game!
