Making the Sleeves - Gwen’s Dress

Описание к видео Making the Sleeves - Gwen’s Dress

The sleeves!!! I love me some cool medieval fantasy game of thrones style sleeves! In this video I show you how I made the sleeves for the Gwen dress!

This video is part of a video series in which I go through how I made Gwen’s dress from the BBC TV show Merlin.

WONDER WOMAN COSTUME:    • Wonder Woman’s Gold Armour

The dress is historically inspired with elements from medieval history, the Victorian era (there is an in-built corset in this dress), and even regency (the petticoat is in the style of regency dress from the early 18th century). Some elements of the dress use historical sewing techniques while the majority uses a mix of modern sewing techniques and whatever I feel is necessary to get the look I want. Of course the dress has heavy fantasy elements too which is my favourite part!

I’ve already made the base dress, which I already have two videos on. In these videos, I go through the making of the foundation garment, the corset, to provide structure to the dress and keep the torso of the dress nice flat and smooth across the stomach.

I then have already made the actual dress which followed a basic medieval dress pattern with princess seams from Butterick. I then also have a video on the petticoat that will be worn with the dress. The petticoat is not medieval style at all but that’s because I want to wear it with my regency costumes as well!

In my last video I go through the beautiful embellished neckline. Next will be accessories and final touches so be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss it!

ABOUT ME

I am a sewing hobbyist and lover of fantasy and historical costumes, but I also dabble in modern garment alterations sometimes.

When first starting this YouTube channel, I had so many designs, ideas and concepts for fantasy movie costumes, which I illustrated through the use of photoshop. Now my interests lie with actually physically making and creating.

Of course, I don't have the time and resources to make garments as spectacular as my photoshop designs, but I am still able to enjoy the process of constructing simpler items from start to finish.

On this channel, you will find a wealth of sewing diary vlogs in which I share my sewing journey and thoughts. I am an avid watcher of fellow seamstresses here on YouTube (among my favourites include Angela Clayton, Bernadette Banner and Morgan Donner) and so I thought that I would join in on the fun and upload some content of my own. Hopefully it's helpful to someone out there!
