Adaptation in Action: The DRC’s Solutions for Climate Resilience | The Red Zone 2024

Описание к видео Adaptation in Action: The DRC’s Solutions for Climate Resilience | The Red Zone 2024

In 2021, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) took a significant step in addressing climate change by publishing its inaugural National Adaptation Plan to Climate Change 2022-2026. The plan aims to fortify the nation’s resilience against the impacts of climate change. Nearly 70 percent of its population is dependent on agriculture and other natural resources to drive economic growth–highlighted by its untapped raw mineral deposits estimated value, which is $24 trillion alone. It is imperative to increase international collaboration and support for conflict-sensitive adaptation programs to address significant climate variability risks and climate shocks.

As the DRC confronts the nexus of climate and conflict, climate investors must prioritize support for conflict-sensitive adaptation initiatives that target the root causes of vulnerability—otherwise hard-fought gains will be undermined by nefarious actors. This panel brings together experts on climate adaptation, climate finance, and local non-governmental organizations from the DRC to discuss the future of adaptation, resources, and stakeholders needed to alleviate climate-related challenges that exacerbate humanitarian crisis.
