Another shocking and avoidable death in Delhi. Just five days after a biker fell into a 15-foot pit and died in Janakpuri, a 30-year-old daily wage labourer has lost his life after falling into an open manhole in Rohini’s Sector 32. The victim, Birju Kumar, originally from Samastipur in Bihar, fell into the 14-foot-deep sewer maintained by the Delhi Development Authority. Preliminary investigations suggest the manhole was left uncovered and the area poorly lit.

Rescue teams launched a search operation, but Kumar’s body was recovered hours later. Residents say several manholes on the same stretch were left open, raising serious questions about civic negligence. While authorities claim action will be taken, there is growing outrage over how many more lives will be lost before basic safety is ensured.
