The Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults program (CELTA), provides those new to teaching or with no experience, a professional certification that can be used to start a career teaching English abroad. Standardized and monitored by Cambridge University, the CELTA certificate is the most highly regarded ESL teaching qualification, and sought-after by the majority of employers. It enables access to the best teaching positions abroad in places such as Korea, Japan, Spain, Germany, and the United Arab Emirates. Many employers require this certificate.

Taught on UT Austin campus, CELTA is an intensive and academically rigorous program. Participants train eight hours a day, for four weeks on teaching and learning methods, language analysis and awareness, lesson planning, and finding resources. The program includes weekly observations of UT ESL’s experienced instructors and six hours of classroom teaching practice.
