সুয়েজ খালের ইতিহাস

মিশরের সিনাই উপদ্বীপের পশ্চিমে অবস্থিত সুয়েজ খাল মানুষের নির্মিত একটি কৃত্রিম খাল।
ধারণা করা হয়, সমুদ্র বানিজ্যর প্রায় ১০ শতাংশ পরিচালিত হয় এই খাল দিয়ে।
এশিয়ার সাথে ইউরোপের যোগাযোগ সহজতর করার জন্যই খনন করা হয় সুয়েজ খাল। আঠারোশো উনষাট সালে শুরু হয়ে দশ বছর ধরে চলে এই খনন কাজ। আন্তর্জাতিক চুক্তি অনুযায়ী, সুয়েজ খাল শান্তিকালীন অথবা যুদ্ধকালীন সব সময়েই যে কোন দেশের পতাকাবাহী বাণিজ্যিক বা যুদ্ধ জাহাজের জন্য উন্মুক্ত থাকবে।

History of the Suez Canal

The Suez Canal is a man-made canal located west of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt.
It is estimated that about 10 percent of sea trade is conducted through this canal.
The Suez Canal was dug to facilitate Europe's communication with Asia. This excavation work started in 1869 and continued for ten years. According to international agreements, the Suez Canal shall be open to commercial or warships of any nation in time of peace or war.
