Hundreds of quilts — including intricate, yearlong projects packed with local Southeast Texas references — will fill the Beaumont Civic Center during the Golden Triangle Quilt Guild’s annual quilt show, set for Friday and Saturday.
Organizers said about 300 quilts will be on display this year. The theme is “Showing You Love to Southeast Texas,” and one featured entry includes “all the things in Beaumont that I love and that bring peace,” with “about 20 different little things in there to look for.”
The quilt’s maker said the piece took “like, maybe a year working on it” as ideas were added over time. She said quilt-making timelines vary widely, from a weekend for a baby quilt to years for show pieces, adding, “There’s one that I worked on for like three years.”
In addition to the main displays, the show will include a section recognizing the “250th Anniversary of America,” with a large display of red, white and blue quilts.
Some quilts will be for sale, and organizers said the event will also feature a booth of quilts for sale and about 30 vendors offering items beyond quilting, including “jewelry and purses and baskets and all kinds of things.” The show will also include a silent auction and a raffle quilt. “The raffle quilt is beautiful this year,” an organizer said.
The Golden Triangle Quilt Guild recently marked its 45th anniversary and was founded in 1981. The organizer said she was not sure exactly when the quilt show began, but believed it likely started in the 1980s.
The guild currently has about 150 members and meets once a month, bringing in out-of-town speakers for lectures and holding workshops the next day to learn new techniques. The group also offers beginner opportunities, including a program called “the newbies,” described as a group for new people to learn about the guild and quilting. The organizer said members range in age and skill level, including a recent member “probably in her 20s.”
The Golden Triangle Quilt Guild annual quilt show will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Beaumont Civic Center. Admission is $12, and children 8 and under are free.
Tickets are available online through Ticketmaster, though organizers noted Ticketmaster fees apply. Tickets can also be purchased early at the box office.
