In this video, we explore Kent Beck’s thought experiment CodeFeed, a system designed to bring asynchronous awareness to code changes. While such a system doesn’t yet exist, research by Bacchelli and Bird (2013) shows that the biggest time sink in code review isn’t bug finding or nitpicking style—it’s simply trying to understand the change.

That insight changes everything.

In the absence of the perfect review tool, the best thing we can do is reduce the cognitive load of our code: make it readable, document it well, and respect the reviewer’s time.
