Projects and Programs to Protect a Climate Risk Vulnerable Texas
Texas experiences over 60 dangerous heat days a year, leaving nearly 840,000 Texans particularly vulnerable to extreme heat. On the other hand, the Great Freeze of 2021 and subsequent recent ice storm events has demonstrated devastating effects on the ERCOT grid and other critical infrastructure. Growing threats also include coastal and inland flooding, wildfires, and hurricanes. In addition to reducing emissions, developing, and maintaining resilient and adaptive infrastructure will be imperative to mitigating climate risks. This panel considers approaches at municipal, county, and regional levels to tackling the planning, financing, and implementation of climate resilience strategies.
