In this episode of Defence in Depth, Dominic Nicholls, Associate Editor at The Telegraph explains how Putin’s political relationships are deteriorating, and why this will be causing the Russian President most alarm.

A number of things might come to pass in the near future that could upset Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine.

First, should the ailing leaders of Belarus and Iran die, domestic political turmoil in those countries will impact Moscow’s war machine.

Next, if Ukraine continues to strike Russia’s military and political centres of gravity, Putin’s military operation and his own future could be in doubt.

Finally, if the US and China find a way to improve the current poor state of relations, Russia is likely to be given short shrift by a Beijing angered by the fact Putin’s promised three-week offensive has dragged on for over a year.
