Repairing a Mini DV tape is actually not very difficult at all, once you have the right tools. In many ways, it’s very similar to the VHS tape repair and audio tape repair. Although tapes can become damaged in many different ways, tape breaking is one of the most common types of damage to these miniDV tapes. In this video, I will show how to repair a Mini DV cassette with a damaged or split tape.

1. First, you will need a 1.4mm Phillips Head screwdriver
2. Unscrew the 4 nails in a counterclockwise motion
3. Carefully remove the bottom cover by gently pulling it up
4. Open the inner flap and remove the spools by pulling it up
5. Inspect your film and find the section where it's damaged
6. Use scissors to cut the damaged section
7. Remove the damaged film by cutting it in an angle
8. Get a small piece of tape and connect the 2 ends together
9. You do not have to tape both sides, less friction is better
10. Make sure the tape is not sticking out
11. Scroll the stools so that the tape gets hidden

Now lets reassemble everything back together
12. Make sure the card chip is positioned in the slot of the case
13. Make sure the plastic cylinder is positioned in the center of the case
14. Finally make sure the slider is positioned in the slot of the case
15. Reassemble the stools back into the case
16. Make sure the transparent side of the stool is facing upwards
17. Gently put the stools back in its position
18. Rotate the stools to tighten the film
19. Use your pointer finger to pull the inner flap upwards
20. Now with your fingers, pull the entire flap upwards
21. Carefully reassemble the case together
22. You can release your fingers once the case is reassembled
23. Make sure you can see the film through the case
24. Check to see if the film is not damaged
25. You can screw the 4 nails back together in a clockwise motion

Congratulations, you've just restored your mini DV film!
