Understanding Retinal Vein Occlusion (RVO)

Описание к видео Understanding Retinal Vein Occlusion (RVO)

This video presents you complete information about Retinal Vein Occlusion (RVO)
The front of the eye contains a lens that focuses images on the inside of the back of the eye. This area is the retina. The retina is where the eye focuses the images we see. It is covered with special nerve cells which convert light into signals that are sent via the optic nerve to the brain, where they are recognised as images. Conditions that affect the retina affect the ability to see.
Arteries carry blood from the heart to other parts of the body, and veins carry the blood back to the heart. A blockage in an artery or vein is called an occlusion or stroke. When the flow of blood from the retina is blocked, it is often because a blot clot is blocking the retinal vein. This condition is called retinal vein occlusion (RVO).

MEDICAL ANIMATION TRANSCRIPT:

How do we see an image ?
The retina is the light-sensitive tissue lining the back of our eye.
Light rays are focused onto the retina through our cornea, pupil and lens.
The retina converts the light rays into impulses.
These impulses travel through the optic nerve to our brain.
Brain interprets the images we see.
A healthy, intact retina is key to clear vision.
Retinal vein occlusion
Retinal vein occlusion is a blockage of the small veins that carry blood away from the retina.
As it’s a blockage of blood flow from your retina back to your heart.
Retinal vein occlusion sometimes referred to as an “eye stroke”.
Blockages from blood clots impairs retina’s ability to filter light and ability to see.
