Here are the UK's general election headlines for Wednesday 19 June.

Leading the headlines, a police officer working as part of PM Rishi Sunak’s close protection team has been suspended and arrested over bets about the timing of the general election.

On the Conservative campaign trail, at the Sizewell B nuclear power station in Suffolk, Sunak said today’s news of inflation falling to 2% was a “very positive step”.

The Scottish National Party launched its election manifesto, with a focus on major investment in the NHS. SNP leader John Swinney said if the party wins a majority of Scottish seats, it would trigger independence talks.

Irish republican party Sinn Fein also launched its manifesto. In the past two years, the party has won the most seats in Northern Ireland’s devolved government and on local councils.

In Swindon, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer included himself in the definition of working people, who his party has pledged not to raise taxes for, while visiting a supermarket with shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves.

The Workers Party of Britain also launched its election manifesto, with a series of promises to improve poverty pay and boost social housing. The party’s leader George Galloway said he wanted to give people a purpose.
