Strikes by resident doctors in England Will go ahead as planned after members of the British Medical Association (BMA) rejected a new offer from the Government, the union has said.

The BMA said its members had 'overwhelmingly' voted that the Government’s proposed offer on jobs is 'not good enough' for them to call off proposed strike action ahead of Christmas. Resident doctors will walk out at 7am on December 17 until 7am on December 22.

It comes as the NHS faces a 'super flu' crisis, with flu cases in hospitals in England at a record level for this time of year. Health bosses warned that the planned industrial action could coincide with a peak of the flu wave, pushing the health service into its 'worst case scenario'.
