Rubies really never come in this size. Even anything over five carats or something rare. But 55 carats is almost a once in a lifetime find. And then to have one that has this unbelievably rich, red, vibrant color and its exceptional clarity. There's never been anything like it."

ANNOTATION: In addition to the Estrela de Fura, the "Eternal Pink" diamond was also sold for over 30 million, an auction first for Sotheby’s or any global auction house.

"Obviously for me also when I first touched it, I said like, wow, like, you know, I've been in this sector for 14 years and I mined some of the best rubies in the world. I was like holding something, my hand was shaking because I felt like 'Am I seeing something real?' And and this is what it does. You know, every gemstone has got its own story. And this ruby talks to you. And that is exactly what you want."

" In addition to the Estrela de Fura ruby, we also have the Eternal Pink diamond, which is a ten and a half carat, vivid, purplish pink. We sold many pink diamonds in the past. We've never sold one that's had this amazing saturation in life. Much like the ruby, it's the kind of stone that you look at it once and it just glows."
7. "The Eternal Pink" diamond

STORYLINE:
Sotheby's New York sold two record breaking jewels for over 30 million each.

The 55 carat ruby is named the "Estrela de Fura" and it was sold for 32.8 million USD.

The ruby discovered in 2022 in Mozambique is a "one in a lifetime find," said Sotheby's gem expert Quig Bruning.

"In short, the largest gem quality ruby to ever come to market. And bit more detail. It's this unique natural treasure. Rubies really never come in this size," says Bruning.

Dev Shetty, Fura Gems’ CEO, the founder of company that found the ruby, said his hands started to shake when he first held the ruby.

"You know, every gemstone has got its own story. And this ruby talks to you," said Shetty.

The Ruby was offered as part of Sotheby’s “Magnificent Jewels” auction.

Also in the auction was a stunning 10 carat pink diamond, known as "The Eternal Pink" diamond.
