In this episode, Churchill Achika, an electrical engineer and engineering management professional hangs out with Joab Ogato to talk about the landscape of innovation in the African context. Churchill breaks down the complexities of European/western exploitation that have led to the slow progress and lack of growth among many developing nations, many of them based in Africa, including corrupt leadership, lack of succession channels, lack of governance structures as well as the blatant misuse of public funds for personal gain.
He also talks about the mismatch between the engineering education that many students receive and their surprise in the job market when they find that their education is rendered useless.
Churchill discusses some solutions, some of which may seem a tad bit extreme, but necessary.
