Locality Review: Sarjapur, Bengaluru

Sarjapur or Sarjapura was once famous for its muslin and silk cloth. Today, it’s a residential and industrial hub with high demand for real estate properties. Sarjapur, situated in south-east Bengaluru, is part of the Anekal tTaluk. Industrial areas, also which are part of the Anekal tTaluk include Electronic City, Attibele, Bommasandra, Chandapura and Jigani. All these areas once famous for their industries are today known as a major IT belt in Bengaluru. Chikka Tirupati, Attibele, Kodathi, Varthur and Whitefield are some of the nearby localities.

Sarjapur enjoys excellent connectivity with prominent IT hubs in the city and the Outer Ring Road (ORR), which is home to many tech companies. Some of the major IT companies in Sarjapur include: Accenture, Capgemini, Cisco, HP and Wipro. Whitefield and Marathahalli are around 17 to 20 kms away. They can be reached via NH-35 within 30 to 40 minutes, provided there is normal traffic. Electronic City is around 25 kms and 35 minutes away and can be reached via the Sarjapur-Attibele Road, in normal traffic conditions. Koramanagala is around 22 kms and 38 minutes away and it can be reached via the Ambalipura-Sarjapur Road or the Marathahalli-Sarjapur Road.

The Whitefield- Sarjapur road stretch is dotted with around 30 international educational institutions. They are situated within a 3 to 9 km radius. Many renowned hospitals are within 4 to 19 kms, taking you anywhere between 7 to 36 minutes to reach. Sarjapur offers many local options for your daily shopping. However, for your weekend entertainment and shopping, you will be required to travel a bit. While the Forum Value Mall, Virginia and Park Square malls are located within 20 kms, Phoenix Market city, Forum Shantiniketan and Inorbit Whitefield Mall are around 21 to 25 kms away. Sarjapur Road, SH-35, Chikka Tirupathi Road, ORR and the Bagalur-Sarjapur Roads offer major connectivity to Sarjapur. Other than these, the Sarjapur-Attibele Road, Ambalipura-Sarjapur Road and the Marathahalli-Sarjapur Road connect the locality to major IT hubs in the vicinity. BMTC buses run in good numbers in Sarjapur, making commuting between Sarjapur and the rest of the city easier.

Autos and cabs too are easily available. Majestic, the nodal point of bus and train connectivity is 32 kms away from Sarjapur. Carmelaram houses the nearest train station. It is around 13 kms away and can be reached via the Sarjapur Main Road. Carmelaram rRailway sStation also comes under the suburban railway network. The Kempegowda International Airport is around 58 kms away from Sarjapur. The proposed RV Road-Bommasandra and the Silk Board-KR Puram Metro Lines, the Peripheral Ring Road Project and the Satellite Town Ring Road Projects when completed are further expected to enhance the connectivity aspect of Sarjapur.

While proximity to major IT hubs, strategic location, excellent connectivity and good social infrastructure are the highlights of residing in Sarjapur, traffic, bad roads, lack of basic infrastructure and over commercialization in certain pockets of the locality are the major drawbacks.
