Was unsere Produktnamen mit Bienen zu tun haben
Traditionell benennen wir bei EINSTOFFEN unsere Brillen nach Berufen. Einen davon, den Imker, haben wir näher begleitet. Das war ein Augenöffner!
Darum unterstützen wir mit der aktuellen Weihnachtsaktion die nachhaltige Wiederansiedlung von freilebenden Honigbienen in der Schweiz in Zusammenarbeit mit FREE THE BEES.
Der Imker, der Honigdieb, die Biene und die Biodiversität
Die Imkerei - das Halten von Bienenvölkern zur Gewinnung von Honig - ist ein jahrhundertealter Beruf. Aber das ist hierzulande gar nicht so einfach!
Die freilebende Honigbiene ist in der Schweiz praktisch ausgestorben. Honig wird heute hauptsächlich unter Bedingungen kommerzieller Nutztierhaltung erzeugt. In freier Wildbahn überleben Honigbienen aufgrund von mangelnder Blütenvielfalt, die durch intensive landwirtschaftliche Tätigkeit verursacht wird, nur noch sehr begrenzt.
Was dringend benötigt wird, ist neuer Lebensraum und eine artgerechte Haltung, welche die Biene ins Zentrum stellt und nicht nur auf möglichst viel Honig abzielt. Der Imker ist ein wichtiges Glied dieser Kette. Ohne ihn wären unsere Felder kaum genügend bestäubt, was sich negativ auf unsere Nahrungskette auswirken würde.
In Südasien wird noch traditionell geimkert. Also haben wir einen Imker aus dem Iran begleitet und sind der Sache auf den Grund gegangen…
Free the Bees
Danach haben wir unsere Freunde von FREE THE BEES gefragt, was die wildlebenden Bienen hierzulande am Nötigsten brauchen. «FREE THE BEES» hat sich dem Schutz der freilebenden Bienenvölker in der Schweizer Natur verpflichtet.
Zu diesem Zweck produzieren und verbreiten sie in Zusammenarbeit mit Förstern Baumhöhlen und schaffen damit in den Wäldern neue Lebensräume, die für freilebende Honigbienen überlebenswichtig sind. Sie bilden Imker in naturnaher und verantwortungsbewusster Bienenhaltung aus und schulen Ertragsimker in der extensiven und nachhaltigen Honigproduktion.

What do Bees have to do with our Product Names?
Naming our eyewear models after a profession - well, in the broadest sense - it’s a tradition here at EINSTOFFEN. This season, we took a closer look at one of them, the Imker («beekeeper») - that was an eye opener!
That's why, with the current Christmas campaign, we decided to support the sustainable reintroduction of free-living honey bees in Switzerland in cooperation with FREE THE BEES
The Beekeeper, the Honey Thief, the Bee, and Bio-Diversity
«Imkern», as you can guess, means «Beekeeping». It’s the keeping of colonies of bees to produce honey, and it‘s a centuries-old profession. But it’s not as easy as you think!
The free-living honeybee is almost extinct in Switzerland. Today, honey is mainly produced under commercial livestock conditions. In the wild, honeybees survive only to a very limited extent due to a lack of flower diversity caused by intensive agricultural activity.
Wild honeybees urgently need new habitats and species-appropriate husbandry that puts the bee front and center and does not just aim to produce as much honey as possible. The beekeeper is an important element in this chain. Without him, our fields would hardly be sufficiently pollinated, which would have a negative impact on our food chain.
In South Asia, where the eastern honey bee originated many millions of years ago, beekeeping is still mainly traditional. So to get to the bottom of it all, we met a traditional beekeeper from Iran - and accompanied him in a day‘s work…
Free the Bees
Next, we asked our friends at FREE THE BEES what beekeeping - and saving the bees - is all about. FREE THE BEES has committed itself to the protection of free-living honeybee colonies in Switzerland.
To this end, they produce and distribute tree cavities in collaboration with foresters, creating new habitats that are essential for the survival of free-living honeybees. FREE THE BEES also trains beekeepers in near-natural and responsible beekeeping and train professional beekeepers in extensive and sustainable honey production.
