PCV is the percentage of RBCs to the whole blood. It is a very good indicator of anemia. This test is used to diagnose and prognostic factor of anemia, dehydration and polycythemia. PCV & hematocrit are the terms used for same purpose but their units are different. It does not matter you call it PCV or hematocrit ultimate purpose and result or interpretation is same. This brief lecture explains the basic concepts of PCV and its importance in diagnostics.
