WHAT IS A SERIOUS MIGRAINE CALLED?

Status migrainosus is a very serious but also very rare migraine variant. It typically causes migraine attacks so severe and prolonged (usually lasting for more than 72 hours) that you must be hospitalized. Remember, that a classical migraine episode lasts between 4 to 72 hours.

Most complications associated with this form of migraine happens due to prolonged vomiting and nausea. Over time with consistent vomiting, you might need to get hospitalized to recover the lost electrolytes.

It is advisable that you go to a hospital for the proper painkillers and electrolyte replenishment. Let the staff know about your migraine lasting more than 72 hours.
