Preventing Condensation in Flat Roof Assemblies

Condensation in a flat roof is a common problem in cooler climates that can often be mistaken for a leak in the roof membrane. Over the course of a heating season, condensation can end up causing water damage to the ceiling, supporting mold growth, and eventually rotting the structure. We need to utilize strategies to prevent condensation, either by warming the condensing surface, by controlling vapor diffusion and air leakage, or by controlling interior relative humidity levels.
