The beginnings of Branson and Sybil's relationship got off to a rocky start due to Sybil's uncertainty. Our favourite pair of star-crossed lovers believed that the world would change after the war had ended. As they progress, Branson reassures Sybil that although the family would initially disown her, eventually they would come around to the idea. So, when Sybil realises that the war was well and truly over, she naively tells Tom that she is ready to leave her old life behind and run away with him.
