The King of Fighters '99 [Arcade]: Single Mode Playthrough with Athena Asamiya [Level 4]

Описание к видео The King of Fighters '99 [Arcade]: Single Mode Playthrough with Athena Asamiya [Level 4]

Note: As KOF '99 is the first KOF that does not play the full team ending in Single mode even if both characters are from a canon team, I took the liberty of including the actual Psycho Soldier Team story cutscenes and editing them into the run over the generic story (minus Krizalid dying at the end) to give full context of their side of the involvement in the story.

KOF '99 starts the NESTS trilogy, and Athena returns once again sprouting a radically different look due to what has happened to her friend Kensou losing his powers around this time. Honestly, I find her '99 look to be quite nice and an underrated fave of mine. As mentioned in the Capcom Vs SNK 2 side-quest, my very first KOF was KOF '99, though, to be more specific, when I first played it, I actually didn't pay much attention to Athena at first, messing around with the Kyo Kusanagi clones and Andy Bogard of all people to start off with. It wasn't until CvS2 that made me go back and try to immerse myself into the Psycho Soldier Idol in this game, and I never looked back since. As for Athena herself, this is the year that gives us her Psycho Shoot, a slower but more powerful Psycho Ball Attack that can set up juggles.

The game itself adds two completely different styles of combat, replacing the old Advanced and Extra modes from the past few KOFs, called Counter Mode (which powers up your attack and allows free Super Cancelling) and Armor Mode (which powers up your defense and gives you super armor, especially during your attacks). Also, infamously, this game introduces the Striker System, where you take one character and designate them as an assist character to come out for one attack similar to Marvel vs. Capcom, but with limited usage. Also, the way Super Desperation Moves function was completely changed too, as they only come out when your health is in critical condition, but still require only a single Super stock to access. However, it does has a slight cooldown to prevent spamming your 3 meters out... Oh, and this game also has that terrible backwards to forwards evasion technique that replaced just simple rolling... It sucks. Never use it (lol).

Lastly, and ironically, the only reason why this video is as long as it is, is due to the fact that losing to Krizalid's 2nd form forces you to fight his first form all over again, yet they are still considered seperate fights, so if you use the continue service, it will only affect the battle with his 1st form and not the 2nd one where it would actually be useful... What a jerk.

Next stop after this: KOF 2000.... which I admit, is giving me QUITE the headache in trying to record it's footage at the moment... but it will be done. Also, there is an actual alternate KOF '99 run that I have as unlisted here that was supposed to be the original run, but I wasn't quite right satisfied with, but I'll put it here in case anyone wants to peak at it (unedited):    • The King of Fighters '99 [Arcade]: Si...
