Frederik Zeuthen says about the piece: "Somnia ['dream'] is an overture for chamber orchestra, dealing with the feeling and idea of escaping from a hectic and dramatic reality. In this piece, there is a precise dream back to five years ago when I wrote the work 'Waldeinsamkeit' ('forest solitude') for the newly established Aarhus Chamber Orchestra (formerly Ensemble Pluma). The lyrical and light motifs and moods from 'Waldeinsamkeit' become, after a quick, chaotic, and city-inspired introduction, the echo in the dreaming middle section of 'Somnia'. However, an abrupt awakening puts an end to this dream, and suddenly we find ourselves back where we started - in a changing, rapidly moving, and sometimes frightening reality."
