Hamburger steaks in a beautiful roux gravy with onions and mushrooms over mashed potatoes

Hamburger Steaks

For patties-
1.5 lb ground beef
1.5 lb ground pork
2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
(I use sweet heat for your meat)
1 tsp each salt and pepper
1 tsp each garlic and onion powder
2 raw eggs
1 cup plain bread crumbs (can add more)
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
*** MIX ALL together and form into 8 one inch Patties. Sear both sides in an oiled pot for about 15 minutes and remove.

For gravy-
1 cup premade roux (I make beforehand)
2 cups beef stock
2 cups water
2 onions cut into rings
1 pint baby Bella mushrooms
2 tbsp minced garlic
1 package onion soup mix (optional)
1 tsp cajun seasoning
1 tsp each garlic and onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste at the end

*** if you prefer, instead of premade roux, put 1/2 cup oil and 1/2 cup flour in at this time and make your roux now, stirring constantly.
*** drop onions into the same pot you seared patties in. Cook 20 more minutes, Continuing to stir. Add garlic and cook 3 more minutes.
Add in beef broth and water. You can chill on the stirring at that point.
Add in all seasonings.
Simmer covered on low 30 minutes.
Add meat and mushrooms.
Simmer uncovered on low 30 more minutes.
Serve over mashed potatoes or rice.
