Gary Player | First and Last | The Open Championship

Описание к видео Gary Player | First and Last | The Open Championship

Gary Player practised harder, travelled further and was more meticulous about his diet and fitness than any other golfer of his generation.

The South African holds the record for the most appearances at The Open Championship by any player. He competed At The Open a staggering 46 times! Winning it three times - 1959, 1968 and 1974.

'Mr Fitness' made his Open debut in 1956, at The 85th Open held at Royal Liverpool Golf Club. Finishing in a very respectable fourth place behind Roberto De Vicenzo, Flory Van Donck and that year's winner, Peter Thomson.

Almost half a century later, the South African would make his final appearance at an Open Championship in 2001, at The 130th Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes.

At the age 65, 'The Black Knight' said goodbye to the tournament where he forged his legacy.

This is the 'First and Last' of Gary Player at The Open Championship.
