Red Deer Rut: The Most Beautiful Fight In Nature

During the rut, Red Deer Stags become highly aggressive towards each other. They roar like lions to impress and attract the does and to intimidate their rivals. Minions are chased away, but dominant stags usually don`t mind the yearlings.

00:33 Fights between leading stags are pretty common at this time. The rivals are being pushed out of the territory, but if the deer females there are in heat, they can`t help themselves but wait somewhere close by. So dominant stags are pretty busy at this time, defending the territory and the harem (or stealing one). Sometimes they get hurt and even killed in fights, I have seen stags with antler wounds on their bodies and one with eye pierced.
Younger stags, who are no rivals to the leaders in their build and antlers, also lurk in the bushes.
