St. Mihiel American Cemetery

St. Mihiel American Cemetery in northeastern France commemorates more than 4,200 American service members who died during World War I.

The cemetery lies in the area where the U.S. First Army fought for and captured the St. Mihiel salient during World War I. Most of the buried and memorialized lost their lives in that epic campaign of 1918.

The small chapel at the cemetery includes a beautiful mosaic at its center that portrays an angel sheathing a sword.

The American Battle Monuments Commission honors America's fallen service members and their stories at 26 overseas cemeteries and 31 monuments.
