Ever wonder what was going through Eve's mind while chatting with that sneaky serpent? Same. It's wild that she didn't pause and think, "Wait a minute… why is this creature talking when none of the other animals do?" That should've been her first red flag! But hindsight is 20/20, right? Oh, the irony of sin. 🥴
In this episode of Reflections with Queen Abijah, I'm in Genesis 3 for a Bible study on the Fall of Man-where Eve's chat with the serpent leads her and Adam to make a choice that changes everything.
This chapter is one of my favorites-yes, even though it's one of the hardest pills to swallow. It's the story of how paradise ended, how sin entered the world, and what happens when we step outside of God's provision. But it's also a story of God's loving mercy. In part 1 of this Bible study, we take a closer look at what may be the worst day in human history and how God responded to it.
To pair with this heavy reflection, I went for something sweet (because, let's be honest, we need it). I made homemade ice cream and brown butter chocolate chip cookies. The cookies are rich, nutty, and loaded with melty chocolate goodness. And the ice cream? I'm officially addicted-it's my third batch this week! My family's obsessed too-my in-laws got a pint, and my husband and daughter demanded their own cartons. 😂
Chocolate chip cookies have been my favorite treat since I was a kid, so it only felt right to pair them with one of my favorite scriptures. Of course, I had my trusty KitchenAid stand mixer on hand-it's a kitchen staple at this point and has been worth every penny!

🍲 Recipes:
Queen Abijah's Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream 🍨
2 cups of heavy whipping cream
1 cup of whole milk
3/4 cup of sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 pinch of salt
Toppings or mixing flavors of your choice
Make sure ice cream bowl and mixer spoon are both frozen (at least 24 hours). Combine ingredients according to taste. Add attachments, turn on machine, and begin mixing while slowly adding ingredients. Churn with kitchen aid for 20-25 min on lowest setting. Once it's a good texture pour in container (mixing in toppings of your choice: Oreo, chocolate chips, etc) and eat or continue freezing.
Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies 🍪
Ingredients:
• 1 cup unsalted butter
• 1 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
• 1/2 cup granulated sugar
• 2 large eggs
• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
• 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1 1/2 cups semisweet or dark chocolate chips (or chunks)
• Optional: Flaky sea salt for topping
Instructions:
1. Brown the Butter:
• Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until the butter foams, then turns golden brown with a nutty aroma (about 4-5 minutes). Watch carefully to avoid burning.
• Pour the browned butter into a heatproof bowl, scraping in the browned bits. Let it cool slightly for 10-15 minutes.
2. Mix the Sugars:
• Add the brown sugar and granulated sugar to the cooled brown butter. Whisk until combined and creamy.
3. Incorporate Eggs and Vanilla:
• Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, until smooth and glossy.
4. Combine Dry Ingredients:
• In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
5. Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients:
• Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
6. Add Chocolate:
• Fold in the chocolate chips or chunks, ensuring they're evenly distributed.
7. Chill the Dough (optional):
• Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes (or up to 24 hours for a more intense flavor).
8. Preheat the Oven:
• Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
9. Scoop and Bake:
• Scoop about 2 tablespoons of dough per cookie (or use a cookie scoop) and place them on the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie.
• Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden but the centers look slightly underbaked. They will continue to set as they cool.
