To expand a user's HP- Reduce the target's HP by at least half, either by attacking the targeted person or make the target use spells such as SWAP and swap HP with a lower level enemy.

To expand a user's MP- Reduce the target's MP by at least half. The long way to do this is to repeatedly cast spells, however if you get the SAP tome and learn that magic you can reduce MP really quickly by sapping the target's magic. (SAP tome- you can buy this from Salamand town as soon as you get the canoe in the story).

Next you win the battle with the target alive.

The SWAP spell is even better than sap if used correctly- SWAP HP & MP with any weak enemy on the field (hence you will have really low HP & MP after swap) and then win the battle. SWAP cannot be found until later in the game however.

If you do not have any of the spells, you can keep attacking the target to reduce HP and cast spells on yourself to reduce MP. Remember though, SAP is available very early in the game (can be bought from Salamand, the town which is shown in the beginning of this video). P.S. Do not forget to stay close to a town for the inn, and SAVE.
