Oral sex can be safe, satisfying as well and emotionally connecting. But it comes with its own merits and demerits as well depending on how an individual perceives it. Oral sex is safe in terms of pregnancy, but not so safe when it comes to STDs and infections, as it can still transmit Sexually Transmitted Infections. Is it satisfying? Again, depends on the way that the individual views oral sex. Some are very open to oral sex and thoroughly enjoy it, whereas some feel it's inhibitive as well as restrictive. So, depending on the person's individual preferences, this can vary. Is it emotionally connected? Of course, yes. It can be very satisfying if you're working with a lot of insight, awareness, and see this as a pleasure rather than as pressure. And it is important to have mutual respect and consent when you're engaging in oral sex. Research suggests that sexual pleasure is not only about intercourse. You also need to know that for oral sex, you need trust and being vulnerable is important. So thereby, through these physical activities you also develop emotional bonding, closeness, willingness to trust yourself and the partner. And the most important thing is you can be vulnerable without a sense of shame, guilt or pleasure. This is often underestimated. Oral sex can definitely spread STIs. Some of the most common infections that can spread through these are Herpes Simplex Virus which is HSV-1 and 2, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, as well as HPV.
