Culled from VHS tapes that my brother and I used to watch over and over again in the eighties. 1986 marked the first time that the World Cup had extensive live cable and network television coverage in the United States. Since the games were hosted by Mexico, the producers at NBC must have figured this epic faux mariachi score, which preceded every live broadcast, would appeal to the growing Latino audience.
