Searching for an elusive New Zealand gecko!

We're learning more about an elusive New Zealand gecko!

Follow ectotherm experts Nick and Jenny as they meet our conservation partners at Mahakirau Forest Estate to start their annual surveys for the cryptic Northern striped gecko.

Located on the crest of the Coromandel ranges, this beautiful native forest is home to an array of endemic taonga including this precious species, that may even be one of New Zealand's rarest geckos.

Using scientific research and careful observation the field team meticulously collect data to determine the extent of their ecology, their population size and reproductive biology, so that they can help to protect them for generations to come.
