The show first premiered on the streaming service back in 2018 and was one of the first Danish Originals. The Rain followed siblings Rasmus (played by Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen) and Simone Andersen (Alba August) as they tried to navigate through a post-apocalyptic Denmark ravaged by a mysterious virus. Trending WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from The Rain season 3 While the brother and sister duo knew little, Simone was aware the virus was linked to Apollon, the company her father worked for. Father Dr Frederik Andersen (Lars Simonsen) was a scientist for Apollon and tried to keep his family safe by hiding them in an underground bunker away from his colleagues. He also injected his son Rasmus with the virus after deciding it was the only way to save the child, who had a terminal illness which left him sick and close to death. Season three saw Rasmus now working with Apollon and its evil boss Sten (Johannes Kuhnke) to infect the world with the virus inside him.  READ MORE The Rain season 3 cast: Who plays Daniel? Meet newcomer  They both believed the only way to save humanity was to make everyone like Rasmus and so immune to the virus. However, in the end, Rasmus realised Sten was still using him and seemed only interested in accumulating power. After killing Sten, Rasmus decided he was going to continue to turn others into superhumans like him. He also decided his sister Simone was now his enemy, believing she wanted to kill him because of the threat he posed. Does Rasmus die in The Rain? Ultimately, the show ended on a melancholic note after Simone and Rasmus reconciled with each other. She revealed to him the flower which fed off the virus and could potentially cure everyone. Rasmus realised by sacrificing himself, he could save the world from devastation. The show ended with Rasmus and his girlfriend Sarah (Clara Rosager) approaching the flower and allowing it to kill them.   With their deaths, it looked like the world was finally cured of the virus and there was hope for a better tomorrow. Express.co.uk spoke exclusively to Rasmus star Tønnesen about how he reacted to the news his character was getting the chop and filming those final scenes. He said the writer Jannik Tai Mosholt called him ahead of the cast getting the final scripts for season three. Tønnesen explained: “He said, ‘I wanted to call you and talk to you about something, we were thinking about killing off Rasmus in the end.’ “I was like, ‘Okay but that sounds like a great idea. If we’re not going to make anything then I think it makes sense for the character to have his ultimatum, which is going to be that he dies.’  “I think a part of Rasmus always knew t
