How can world powers cooperate more effectively on climate action to build peace, prosperity and strengthen societies’ resilience?

The High-Level Panel on Climate and Peace is a platform for dialogue on shared risks and opportunities for tackling the implications of climate change on human insecurity. It aims to strengthen our understanding of the value of water for peace and development. It will explore climate and environmental change, including impacts on water.

There is mounting evidence that climate change has profound implications for human security today and in the future. Climate change can exacerbate economic challenges and environmental degradation, which may negatively affect prosperity, stability, and peace. Water focused solutions can reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as make societies more resilient.

To advance the global conversation around valuing water – recognising and considering the benefits and risks provided by water, that encompass peace, economic, social, and ecological dimensions – the HLP brings together climate representatives from the European Union, USA, and the incoming COP27 Presidency – Egypt, to reflect on the ways in which climate and environmental change leads to human insecurities and undermines sustainable, just, resilient, and peaceful societies.
