Judy Garland: Her Life and Legacy

Judy Garland, born Frances Ethel Gumm in 1922, was a child star who rose to meteoric fame. By the age of 13, she had already landed the iconic role of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. Her powerful voice and captivating performances made her a beloved movie and recording star.

However, Garland's life behind the scenes was a struggle. MGM Studios, known for its demanding contracts, overworked Judy and fueled her addiction issues by giving her amphetamines to stay awake for filming and barbiturates to sleep at night. These pressures, along with personal challenges, took a toll on her health and well-being throughout her life.
