Protesters at Jawahar Circle claim his arrest is wrongful. One activist stated, "Someone like Sonam Wangchuk is not a terrorist. He is a true patriot. He is a true nationalist." Supporters describe Wangchuk as a "hard core Gandhian" who has worked for the people of Ladakh for 35 years and does not support violence.
