(21 May 2016) Thousands of people in La Paz, wearing colorful costumes and dancing participated in the festival of Great Power.
Every year for the past century over 30,000 dancers, members of 64 brotherhoods, have paraded from the popular neighborhoods in the hills around La Paz to the city centre.
The parade covers almost 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) with non-stop dancing that can last for over 14 hours.
Dancers wore typical Andean garments specially made for the occasion and valuable silver masks, hats and pieces of jewelry.
The parade pays homage to an image of Christ from Spanish colonial times and it competes at a national level with the Oruro carnival.
Like the Oruro carnival, it hopes to be one of UNESCO's Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
